Stephen Downs

Stephen Downes is Australia’s most controversial restaurant critic. Fearless and peerless, he has been telling our top restaurants where they’re going wrong for over three decades. In a long journalistic career, he has also covered a war, reported from Iraq soon after Saddam Hussein’s ascension to power, and covered the trouble in New Caledonia in the mid-1980s.

He has won several awards for his books. Advanced Australian Fare, his history of our restaurants and cooking, was Outstanding Food Book of the Year at the 2003 Australian Food Media Awards. He is the restaurant reviewer for Australia’s biggest selling daily newspaper, Melbourne’s Herald Sun.

He has also written the following highly acclaimed books: 'Adagio', 'Blackie', '1001 Things you must eat before you die!', and 'Paris On A Plate'.

Stephen is a witty, informative and engaging speaker guaranteed to provide your audience with a tantalising speaking performance.
