ROGER MAYNARD is a former Australia correspondent for CNBC Asia and Sydney correspondent for the London Times, the Daily Express and the South China Morning Post.

Before moving to Australia more than 20 years ago he worked extensively for BBC radio and television in the UK, including four years on Radio Four's flagship current affairs programme Today.

As a journalist he has covered many of the world's top stories including Britain's role in the Falklands war, the Portuguese revolution, the IRA's bombing campaign on mainland Britain, the crisis in East Timor, the Three Mile Island nuclear scare, the Port Arthur massacre, the clash between the Rainbow Warrior and the French navy in the Pacific and the Tampa affair on Christmas Island.

He has also reported on countless general elections in Britain and Australia. His political interviewees have included Australia’s John Howard, Bob Hawke and Paul Keating, and Britain’s Margaret Thatcher, Edward Heath, James Callaghan.

For many years he was London correspondent for a chain of Australian radio stations including 2UE in Sydney, 6PR in Perth and 4BC in Brisbane.

During the course of his long career he has interviewed David Niven, James Stewart, Charlton Heston, Omar Sharif, Sir Richard Branson, Jeffrey Archer, Barry Humphries, Kylie Minogue, Paul Hogan and countless other big names. (He has also met the Queen on two occasions but royal protocol demands that their lengthy conversations remain confidential).

Maynard is author of ‘Milat,’ the best selling book about the serial killer behind the horrific Australian backpacker murders, ‘Where’s Peter?’ an exhaustive investigation into the events surrounding the disappearance of Peter Falconio in the Australian outback, ‘Life At The Top,’ a portrait of some of Australia's best-known business leaders and their recipe for corporate success, and ‘Fatal Flaw,’ a definitive account of the Norfolk Island murder. His latest book, ‘Hell’s Heroes,’ about one of Japan’s worst POW camps, will be published by Harper Collins in 2008.
