DERRYN HINCH
Ben Hills

Derryn Hinch is one of Australia's foremost radio personalities. He got his start in the industry when he joined 3AW in 1979. He went on to become the undisputed King of Melbourne radio – with the highest morning ratings ever achieved then or now, before leaving to start the top-rating HINCH on the Seven Network and then the Ten Network.

He re-joined 3AW for the third time (after a year doing Nightline in 2000) in February 2003. He’s still there doing what he does best: breaking news, sometimes making news, expressing his opinions on issues across the street and across the world and hoping to make people think.

Hinch has interviewed such diverse politicians as Senator Edward Kennedy and Andrew Peacock. In entertainment he has interviewed such big names as Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Harrison Ford, Catherine Deneuve, Mae West, Peter Finch and Rod Taylor. And he was the Dalai Lama’s choice for his only Australian interview in 2007 when Hinch talked to him for the third time in twenty years.

At home here in Australia he has interviewed every major male and female star over the years — and was also married to a national icon, Jacki Weaver, for fourteen years.
He was the first person in a decade to interview fugitive businessman Christopher Skase in Majorca after he fled Australia. Hinch has a unique, opinionated, often controversial view of history. And he expresses it it lucidly, colourfully and entertainingly.

Hinch is the author of ten books, including three memoirs: 'That’s Life','The Fall and Rise of Derryn Hinch', 'You Are So Beautiful' and 'Human Headlines'… Read all about it!, coming out from HardieGrant this year.

He makes rare appearances at conferences and as an after-dinner guest. He is an entertaining, informative guest speaker on the media, on life, on politics, on food, and relationships. He is fast on his feet and is happy to answer any and all questions. Just don’t ask him for career advice--he's been sacked fourteen times!
